Cape Motorsports Expands into the F4 United States Championship with Series Vet

Cape Motorsports will add the Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda to its 2017 racing arsenal with series vet Steve Bamford of Toronto, Ontario, leading the team’s three-car line up.

“It was an easy decision for us as a team to bring on Steve. We raced against Steve and Greg Rice (Rice Race Prep) in F1600,” said Cape Motorsports Co-owner Nicholas Cape. “Steve drove for us at the Toronto Grand Prix and did a fabulous job. When we talked about competing together in F4, it was a no-brainer really. Steve and Greg share the same passion for motor racing as we do. We’re pretty excited to add the F4 U.S. Championship to our program.”

The Canadian pilot placed sixteenth in the inaugural F4 U.S. season. In 2016, Bamford also claimed the F1600 Master Championship, F2000 Championship and the F2000 Master Champion running under Rice Race Prep.

“The series fits into our overall internal ladder system and will be a great step for young drivers graduating from karting,” Cape Motorsports Co-Owner Dominic Cape said. “We like the budget and we like the cars. We’re really looking forward to getting out to the track to begin our test program.”

Cape Motorsports’ testing program is scheduled to launch later this month before the team travels to the first official F4 U.S. test weekend at NOLA Motorsports Park, Feb. 26-27.

F4 U.S. expanded its schedule for 2017, hosting six event weekends with 18 total races. The schedule kicks-off at Homestead-Miami Speedway April 8-9 with visits to Virginia International Raceway, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Canadian Tire Motorsports Park and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The 2017 season will conclude in September at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
