With 178 checkered flags waved in Formula 4 United States Championship (F4 U.S.) alone over the last 10 years, the championship has visited 14 circuits across North America to provide up-and-coming racers valuable track time on the same iconic circuits that they’ll encounter as they climb the ladder to the top levels of motorsport. From Road America and Mid-Ohio, to Virginia International Raceway and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, drivers gain familiarity with the same tracks that they’ll tackle in higher divisions like INDYCAR, IMSA, INDY NXT and more, paying dividends for years to come.
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course:
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course has been the most-frequented circuit in F4 U.S. history. With 32 rounds contested over 12 visits, the 2.258-mile course was the site of F4 U.S.’s first race—and hosted the most recent round, too.
Some of the earliest F4 U.S. winners at the road course were now-INDYCAR drivers Kyle Kirkwood (2016 and 2017) and Christian Rasmussen (2018). Dakota Dickerson also won at the circuit in 2018, before returning the next season to win an IMSA Prototype Challenge Series race. Drivers like current FIA Formula 2 standout Noel León, and INDY NXT stars Lochie Hughes and Nicolas Stati, have all won F4 U.S. events at the Ohio circuit, along with the up-and-comers from Racing America’s Ladder System like Cooper Shipman and Gastón Irazú.
VIRginia International Raceway:
VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) has been another mainstay on the F4 U.S. schedule, joining the calendar in 2017 and hosting the series nearly every year since. With 23 rounds contested at the track over eight event weekends to date, the track has welcomed drivers like Kyle Kirkwood, Christian Rasmussen and Benjamin Pedersen to F4 U.S.’s Victory Lane. In 2019, Christian Brooks won in F4 U.S. at VIR; he returned to the circuit in 2025 with FR Americas and swept the weekend. Cooper Shipman hopes to do the same in FR Americas this year, after winning both F4 U.S. races at VIR last season.
Road America:
Elkhart Lake’s Road America joined the F4 U.S. schedule in 2021, and has been a driver favorite ever since. Home to some of the series’ closest finishes, the 4.048-mile circuit provides a welcome challenge to drivers with its dramatic elevation changes and sweeping high-speed straights. Australian Lochie Hughes used F4 U.S. to get introduced to Road America, and then used that experience to lock in an INDY NXT victory at the circuit.
Road Atlanta:
Before Road America joined the calendar, F4 U.S.’s most visited “Road” was Road Atlanta. Home to 12 rounds from 2016 until 2020, the series visited the circuit a total of four times with nine different drivers standing atop the podium. Cameron Das, the inaugural F4 U.S. champion, is the winningest F4 U.S. driver at the venue, and used the experience he gained in the championship to climb the F1 ladder all the way up to FIA Formula 3 in Europe.
Canadian Tire Motorsport Park:
F4 U.S. has only raced at one circuit outside the United States—Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP). First visiting the Bowmanville, Ontario circuit in 2017, the championship has raced there each year since 2024. All eyes will be on the winner when F4 U.S. returns to CTMP over Labor Day Weekend, as each CTMP weekend has been swept by that season’s eventual champion. In 2017, Kyle Kirkwood competed the weekend sweep, while Daniel Quimby won all three races in 2024, and Cooper Shipman completed the F4 U.S. hat trick in 2025.
Barber Motorsport Park:
Barber Motorsports Park is one of the newer tracks to join the F4 U.S. calendar, but it holds a significant role as the place where the series crowns its champions. With a total of six F4 U.S. rounds contested at the circuit during a 2020 quadruple-header and 2025 double-header weekend, Hunter Yeany, Jose Blanco, Spike Kohlbecker and Alex Popow have won at the track that is included on today’s INDYCAR and IMSA schedules.
F4 U.S. continues its 10th anniversary season in just two weeks at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP). The New Jersey Lottery weekend featuring Racing America with FR Americas, F4 U.S., Ligier Junior Formula Championship and Sportscar Vintage Racing Association will take place July 31-August 2 on NJMP’s Thunderbolt course.
