Gastón Irazú Dominates at Road America for First F4 U.S. Win

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (May 16, 2026) – Gastón Irazú put on a dominant performance to capture his first win in Formula 4 United States Championship (F4 U.S.) competition. As last year’s driver champion in Ligier Junior Formula Championship (Ligier JFC), Irazú (No. 27 Elia Group / Baly / Canal 4 / Ancap / Champagne Racing Ligier JS F422) moved up to F4 U.S. with assistance from the Champion’s Scholarship. Now, following two podiums at NOLA Motorsports Park during the season opener, the Uruguayan has finally captured his first F4 U.S. victory to solidify his viability in the championship battle.

 

Notes of Interest:

  • In his fourth F4 U.S. start, Gastón Irazú earned his first win in the championship.
  • After winning the first three races of the 2026 season, Caleb Campbell finished second in Race 1 at Road America.
  • Zach Fourie continued his podium streak with a third-place result in Race 1. This was his fifth-consecutive finish inside the top three since the 2025 season finale at Barber Motorsports Park.
  • Three nations were represented on the Race 1 podium with Irazú hailing from Uruguay, Campbell a Canadian, and Fourie residing in South Africa. 

 

Irazú put on a clinic at Road America, leading the field from flag to flag in a race that stayed green the entire session. Starting from the pole position, Irazú immediately pulled away from the field, holding nearly a second advantage by the completion of the first lap. His lead only grew as the minutes ticked by, while the field battled for position in his mirrors. Caleb Campbell (No. 68 Steele Auto Group / Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F422) started the race from the fourth position, but with a fast pace, he moved up to third by lap three, and slid into second the following lap. With Irazú nearly four seconds ahead, Campbell settled into second and worked on building a gap to third. 

The battle for third was some of the most exciting competition of the race, with Clemente Huerta Raab (No. 17 Velox USA / Speed Factory Ligier JS F422), Zach Fourie (No. 15 Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F422) and Fernando Rivera (No. 16 Crosslink Motorsports Ligier JS F422) all contesting for the final podium position. It was an aggressive fight between the three drivers that spanned nearly the entire race and included more position changes than anyone could count. During the final minutes of the race, Fourie pulled away to secure the spot. 

Irazú was the first to take the checkered flag, with Campbell following in second and Fourie in third.

“I am really happy because I got my first win in this category,” said Irazú after climbing from the car. “I want to thank my whole team [Champagne Racing] for the car they gave me—this race is for them.” 

F4 U.S. will contest a doubleheader tomorrow, as the green flag waves at 9:20 a.m. and 2:10 p.m. CT for the championship’s two races.
