Carl Bennett Earns a Pair of Top-Ten Results in Penultimate F4 US Weekend
October 10, 2022 Descending on the VIRginia International Raceway for the second to last event weekend in the F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda, Gonella Racing driver Carl Bennett scored a pair of top-ten results. Shifting his focus to the next on-track activity, Bennett will now travel to the UK and Donington Park for the GB4 finale with Fortec Motorsports prior to returning to the United States for the F4 US finale at the Circuit of the Americas.

After qualifying in the top-ten, the Gonella Racing driver was able to advance forward when the first wheel-to-wheel action began. Showing speed earning the third fastest lap of the race, Bennett was able to climb into the sixth position where he would finish.

“It was a little bit of a frustrating race as we had a long caution period that took up much of the session,” added Bennett. “I think if we had some more green flag racing, I could have moved forward some more. Sixth is a good result for myself and the team, and I will start third for race two this afternoon.”

The second race of the weekend was short-lived for Carl Bennett as contact in the opening lap damaged his Gonella Racing machine and forced him to retire before one lap was complete. Dejected to not be able to fight for a podium after starting closer to the front, Bennett shifted his focus to Sunday and his final chance for a victory on the weekend.

Back to the track Sunday morning and looking to put the DNF from race two behind him, Carl Bennett was able to hold the position in the top-ten and garner some additional championship points. In a race that featured a caution on the opening lap and ended under yellow flag conditions, the Gonella Racing driver crossed the line in P8 adding to his season-long point total. Following the race, Bennett was elevated one position to seventh due to an on-track penalty assessed to a fellow competitor.

“You never want to finish a race under yellow, especially today with the car that I think we had,” explained Bennett. “With no chance to fight and move forward, we just had a parade behind the pace car until the end. Hopefully, we can have some more green flag racing at the series finale in a few weeks.”
