VRD Driver Erik Evans Scores Triple Podium Performance at Yacademy Winter Series Presented by Hankook

Evans learns and gains experience in four days' worth of on track action

Competing at the 2020 YACademy Winter Series Presented by Hankook, Erik Evans continued his foray into open wheel racing. As a rookie fresh out of karting, Evans has completed test laps to get familiar with his new Velocity Racing Development prepared Ligier JS F4 but entered his first F4 only event last week. Looking to continue his upward trend of experience and knowledge, the young Georgia resident competed at both the Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR) in Jupiter, Florida and the Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Florida.

"It was a great learning experience and the more track time I can get the better," explained Evans following his four days on track in Florida. "To compete at both PBIR and Homestead was great and just gives me more motivation for the rest of the season."

Consistently in the top-five on the results chart, Evans turned his fifth-place qualifying effort at the Palm Beach International Raceway into a third-place podium result in the second race on the day. Claiming fifth place finishes in rounds one and three, Evans was not happy with his results.

The St. Francis High School student continued, "I am not sure if it was a bit of nerves or what, but I needed to refocus. It is easy for me to be hard on myself, but I need to understand that I am still very new to car racing."

Packing up from Palm Beach International Raceway and travelling further south, Evans rebounded fantastically at the Homestead-Miami Speedway facility. Claiming a third-place result in race one, Evans made it a one - two finish for the Velocity Racing Development program in race two chasing his teammate Hunter Yeany across the line and locking out the top two steps of the podium. Returning to the track for race three later that day, Evans found his way back to the podium, this time in P3.

With wheel-to-wheel experience now under his belt, Erik Evans is primed and ready for the start of the F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda April 9 - 11th at the famed Road Atlanta.
