Rookie Ryan MacDermid Ends F4 Season with Top-Ten Finish

Canadian driver finishes his season on a high note in largest event of 2019

The 20-turn track in Austin, Texas was a challenge rookie Ryan MacDermid was ready for. The Velocity Racing Development driver from north of the border was in the action from the moment the lights went green.

Unfortunately for MacDermid, he was involved in a collision early on that forced him to pit lane. His team came through for him and had him back on track after only two laps out. The Canadian put his head down and drove to the checkered flag and set the eighth fastest lap which would put him in a good starting position for race two the next day.

Taking place just before the Formula One race, more than 100,000 spectators jammed the facility as F4 drivers were pushed to the forefront of the motorsports scene at the Circuit of the Americas.

"I was disappointed that I didn't score points in both races this weekend," explained MacDermid. "But I was ready for Sunday's race. I knew I had to race hard and push to get through to the front."

When the lights went out MacDermid did just that. Running as high as fifth on occasion and through close wheel-to-wheel action during almost every lap, Ryan would cross the stripe in the seventh position and close his season with another top-ten finish.

MacDermid added, "Although I wasn't able to finish on the podium this weekend, I am happy for the top-ten finish after race one yesterday. My rookie season is officially over, and I can't wait to see what I can bring to the table next year."

With the 2019 F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda coming to a close, Ryan MacDermid finished 11th in the series championship that 47 drivers competed in. Scoring 48 championship points, the Canadian was the highest placing championship point standings finisher for Velocity Racing Development and ended his 2019 campaign similar to it started, with a top-ten finish.
