Velocity Racing Development to make series debut at COTA
Set to make its Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda series debut, Velocity Racing Development (VRD) will enter a pair of drivers in the 2018 championship finale. Competing alongside the Formula One World Championship at the famed Circuit of the Americas (COTA), Oliver Clarke and Sabré Cook will bring VRD to the North American series as they look to build a program for the 2019 season.
"I am excited for my second F4 event weekend as well as to join VRD," explained Sabré Cook, who made her series debut at the most recent round of the F4 program and is scheduled to test with the VRD outfit at the Atlanta Motorsports Park facility later this week. "I have had the opportunity to compete in several different cars in 2018 but this is an important race for me. I am looking to have the best result possible for VRD, but also springboard myself into a solid 2019 racing program."
Clarke, who scored his first series points at the most recent event weekend at the New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP), will jump in his new VRD machine for the first time during the one and only practice session on the official race weekend.
"New Jersey was a good event for myself as I was able to gain my first points of the season," added Clarke. "I will look to carry that momentum into and through the COTA weekend and see if I can help VRD score their first points in their debut event."
While Velocity Racing Development is making its series debut at COTA, team officials have been working around the clock to be the best prepared, but also to move into their new home. Based at the Atlanta Motorsports Park facility, VRD will utilize the track as their development hub as they focus on test programs as well as fielding cars in both the F4 and F3 programs in 2019. VRD will also launch an in house driver development program for young drivers to improve their skills and knowledge both on and off the track. More details to be announced in the coming weeks.
With a high pedigree of staff working in the background, VRD will be looking to add yet more top caliber staff and drivers into its program over the winter months. Running a limited program and focusing on quality over quantity, VRD is taking the unique approach.
"I can't think of any place better to make our debut than at COTA in Texas. This is the first step for Velocity Racing Development, and I'm looking forward to working with the team I have put together to develop our young talent physically and mentally, not only for the rigors of open wheel racing, but life," explained Robert Yeany, a former Navy SEAL and entrepreneur. "Over the next five years, our goal is to transition young drivers from karting to cars and build a professional team here in the United States modeled after European powerhouses. My other goal with VRD is to bring attention to the veteran business community throughout the United States. Veteran owned companies, such as Strike Force Energy, Virginia High Performance, and 30 Seconds Out are just a few of the partners that will be debut with our cars at COTA and throughout the 2019 season."
