11:35 p.m. Competitors and staff broke for lunch

***

The second promoter test session started after lunch. Rain continued to plague the day, starting and stopping throughout the session creating uneven track conditions. Not all the drivers who entered participated in the test. Jay Howard Driver Development pilot Hanna Zellers caused a brief red flag after an off-track excursion sent her into a guardrail. Emergency crews responded to extract the stranded driver. She was uninjured, but the damage sustained enough damage to retire her for the rest of the test.

***

While the rain was no longer falling by the time the F4 U.S. drivers took the track for the only official practice of the weekend, heavy rainfall prior to the start created uneven track conditions. Thirty-two of the 33 entered drivers participated. Kent Vaccaro faced transponder issues and did not record a time for the practice. All drivers started on Pirelli P Zero slicks. Christian Rasmussen of Copenhagen, Denmark, turned the fastest lap of the session at a 1:20.296 with DEForce Racing driver James Raven of Portsmouth, England, following in second just over a half second off pace. A brigade of Crosslink/Kiwi Motorsport drivers filled in the final top-five spots. Mid-way through the session a red flag came out after Jack William Miller of Westfield, Indiana, hit a slick area on the track, spinning his car which got stuck high center. Miller was able to retire to the pits on his own power with some help from the safety crews. On the out lap as the track went hot, JHDD teammates Daniel Berry of Jacksonville, Mississippi, and Christian Bogle of Covington, Louisiana, made incidental contact. The 30-minute practice clock expired under red conditions as the safety crews untangled the two rookies.

Quotes from Practice and Qualifying Results

Austin Kaszuba, Crosslink/Kiwi Motorsport- “Overall it was a weird day as far as weather was concerned. The rain was on and off but during our first two sessions the track was pretty slick due to a continuing mist but never quite warranted wet tires. This actually made for some good fun but didn’t do us much good as far as gathering data is concerned. Fortunately we got a solid amount of green flag laps with the driest conditions of the day in the last session and I’m confident we will have a good car for qualifying!”

Dakota Dickerson, DC Autosport with Cape Motorsports – We didn’t get many green flag laps in. Since it rained right before we went out, we stayed in the pits and let the other drivers dry off the track. On my out lap the red came out, however, we were able to fix some issues that were hindering our performance in the promoter test day.

Kent Vaccaro, Skip Barber Momentum F4- Yesterday constant light drizzles made for a difficult day of testing New Jersey is unique, made up of almost entirely fast corners, so I have my work cut out for me in qualifying, but I’m looking forward to stickering up and pushing the car

Edwardo Barrichello, DC Autosport with Cape Motorsports- Testing yesterday was good, but we had rain in the promoter test day, so in practice we made up some improvements.
