Jay Howard Driver Development back on top after F4 US Championship Mid- Ohio

Indy 500 driver Jay Howard’s F4 USA team was back on top form at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, recently. The Jay Howard Driver Development (JHDD) team took two steps of every podium, with Christian Rasmussen of Denmark taking two wins and a second and single-seater rookie Teddy Wilson of England taking third place in all three races.

Howard said, "I am so proud of the entire team, we have all been working extremely hard and are dedicated to winning. I want to thank the drivers, parents, crew and partners for everything. We win as a team, and what a team we have!"

The weekend got off to a strong start with all four JHDD team cars qualifying in the top seven of the 30-strong field. Young Brit Teddy Wilson just missed pole position when his qualifying time was beaten by 300ths of a second in the closing minutes of the session, with Christian Rasmussen only another 300ths of a second behind him. Team JHDD American drivers Braden Eves and Wyatt Brichacek took fifth and seventh places respectively.

Both Rasmussen and Wilson had something to prove after both had disappointing rounds at Atlanta the previous time out, with team JHDD looking to regain valuable points for the F4 USA Constructors’ Championship. Eighteen-year-old Rasmussen, who was third in the 2017 Danish F4 Championship, had already topped the podium twice with JHDD in the opening round at Virginia International Raceway. Wilson also scored second and third place podium finishes there on his single-seater debut, after making the transition from karts to cars this season.

“The effort my team put in for me to race this weekend was simply amazing. It was great to finish off the weekend with two wins to catch up in points,” explained Rasmussen, now just 10 points behind current Championship leader Dakota Dickerson. Wilson moves up into fifth in the Driver standings.

Eves, finishing in seventh in Round 9, also added to JHDD’s points tally. The Mid-Ohio results see team JHDD topping the 2018 F4 U.S. Constructors Championship leader board by 79 points at the half-way point.

The next round of the F4 U.S. Championship will take place at the newly FIA-accredited Pittsburgh International Race Complex from August 3-5 for Keystone Speedfest. In a mixed sports car and open-wheel weekend, the race ticket features the world debut of the F3 Americas Championship Powered by Honda, the F4 US Championship, the Trans-Am Series presented by Pirelli (TA, TA3, TA4) and Formula Race Promotions’ F-1600 Championship, F2000 Championship and Atlantic Championship.
