Cape Motorsports Puts Pressure on JDX Racing for Top Spot in F4 U.S. Team Points

JDX Racing secured the top spot in team points following the second Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway June 10-11. However, pressure from Cape Motorsports has cut the 2016 championship team’s comfortable 42-point lead to just 16 heading into Canadian Tire Motorsports Park.

“Not the weekend we expected from ourselves,” said JDX Racing Managing Partner Jeremy Dale following the IMS weekend. “The cars were quick, but not quick enough. Our drivers made some unforced errors that we couldn’t afford to make. It was our first visit to IMS and without a doubt, we came away with valuable track knowledge that would have been very useful at the start of the weekend, but that's the way racing goes. We learn from those lessons and move on to work and be better at the next event."

Three wins from Kyle Kirkwood of Jupiter, Florida, and two top-10 finishes from Mathias Soler-Obel of Bogota, Colombia, launched Cape Motorsports from a fourth-place tie to second in team standings.

"Indy has always been a great event for our team over the years, and we all looked forward to competing in the F4 U.S. Championship there,” said Cape Motorsports

Co-Owner Dominque Cape. “We felt as a group we could get back in the fight after Homestead and all our drivers would have a chance to do well. Second in the team points and second and ninth in the drivers’ championship is a great position to be in this early in the season. With so many good teams and drivers I am sure it will be a real knock-down drag-out fight from here on out, and we love those as a team."

Global Racing Group edged out Indy Motorsport Group at IMS for third-place after its drivers attained two podiums and two top-10 finishes. Jay Howard’s Motorsports Driver Development broke its 10th-place standings tie, scoring enough points from series-newcomer Braden Eves of Gahanna, Ohio, to boost the team to fifth.

Group-A Racing, Miller Vinatieri Leguizamon Motorsports, Abel Motorsports, Momentum Motorsports and single-car teams AK Racing and Crosslink Racing also added points to their championship points run in Indy.

Team Championship points are calculated from the teams’ top-two drivers’ standings from each individual race. In case of a tie, the team with the most race wins will be awarded the higher position.

The F4 U.S. Championship teams are back in action for Rounds 7-9 at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park July 7-9. Fans can view full point standings here-
