F4 United States Champion Secures BRDC F3 Seat

After sweeping the second half of the inaugural season of the Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda and capturing the championship, Cameron Das of Brooklandville, Maryland, takes the next step in his formula racing career signing with Carlin for the 2017 BRDC British Formula 3 Series.

“British Formula 3 feels like the natural next step in my racing development,” said Das. “I’ve already had a chance to see Carlin in action and I couldn’t be more excited to spend the 2017 season with them. I really appreciate the support from my sponsor Autobahn Indoor Speedway and other partners for allowing me to embark on this incredible opportunity. I cannot wait for the first race weekend.”

In October, Das competed with the nine-time British F3 championship team for the BRDC Autumn Trophy at the Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk, United Kingdom. The F4 U.S. champion placed seventh in his European debut. Das continued testing with the team program throughout November and December.

“It’s great news to have Cameron joining us for the 2017 season,” Carlin Racing director Trevor Carlin said. “His stats speak for themselves. It takes a lot for a driver to dominate any part of the season in the way that Cameron did with F4 U.S. last year, both physically and mentally. So, we’re looking forward to welcoming him to the team. He has already been testing with us and working well with his teammates . We’re certainly looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together in 2017.”

Designed to keep costs low while providing an ideal learning tool for young drivers, the FIA F4 was created to bridge the gap from karts to cars, serving as a gateway to the F3 Championship.

“Cameron is continuing to show his development as a driver and young adult that he exhibited in the F4 U.S. Championship,” said Steve Oseth SCCA Pro Racing Vice President.  “It is gratifying to see his work throughout the 2016 season payoff.  The skills he developed in F4 will continue to provide him the tools on which his continued development will be based.”
