Das Pushes Winning Streak to Four Consecutive F4 U.S. Victories

Cameron Das of Brooklandville, Maryland, continued his string of success Saturday as he won both races at the Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda event at Road Atlanta.

Das, piloting the blue and white JDX Racing ZeroChroma F4 car, has now won four consecutive races, the longest winning streak so far in the inaugural F4 U.S. series, and will look to extend his streak with the final race of the weekend on Sunday.

“I’m honored to be a part of the inaugural season of F4 U.S.,” said Das, who has won a total of five races this season. “Hopefully my times and results have set the bar for years to come. I couldn’t have done it without the help of the JDX team.”

Das had a good jump at the start of Race 2 and was never contested, gaining a six-second advantage over his competition.

Das was passed only one time during both races. After locking up his brakes in Turn 10a during Lap 1 of the first race, Konrad Czaczyk of Loxahatchee, Florida, capitalized on Das’ fault and made a pass in Turn 12. Das stayed in Czaczyk’s draft down the back straight and then reversed Czaczyk’s move on Lap 2. Das made contested Czaczyk in Turn 10a making his final pass on the inside of Turn 2. Das maintained the lead after his run on Czaczyk.

Czaczyk started in fourth position during the second race starting behind Das, Kyle Kirkwood of Jupiter, Florida, and Austin Kaszuba of Burleson, Texas. Czaczyk quickly overtook Kaszuba in Lap 1 after Kaszuba made an error going into Turn 6. The car got a little loose in the turn causing Kaszuba to run over the curb. Kaszuba would retire soon after with a loose drive pin.

Czaczyk took three laps to catch-up with Kirkwood.

“I had a good exit out of Turn 10a and 10b,” Czaczyk said. “I got the run out of Turn 12 on Kyle. Kyle runs clean and let me by before the main straight. I think we’re going to have an opportunity to race for the win tomorrow.”

Kirkwood joined Das on the podium for both races placing second in Race 1 and third in Race 2. Kirkwood started in third position Race 1 and as soon as the lights turned green he battled Czaczyk for Position 2. The battle would result in Kirkwood overtaking Czaczyk halfway through the race, but Czaczyk was relentless trying to gain back his starting position. Though Kirkwood pulled away from Czaczyk late in the race, the focus on defending his position would allow Das to pull away uncontested. Das would finish with a five-second lead.

“We were decently quick today and were able to keep up with Cameron if I was in the draft,” Kirkwood said. “A little bit of a battle with Konrad kept us from doing that. We are working on a different setup for the final race with a definitive answer on which direction we need to go with the car. Tomorrow we will have a lot better of a car than we did today.”

While Das and Kirkwood ran an amazing Race 1, it was action happening in the back of the pack that had the fans watching in enthusiasm.

Skylar Robinson of Augusta, Georgia, started in pit lane with a five-second start penalty and worked his way from last to finish on the podium in third.

Robinson was asked to fill-in for Michael Goodyear of Carmel, Indiana, after Goodyear withdrew from race weekend late Friday evening.  GMV team co-owner Jack Miller contacted Momentum Motorsports owner Phil Picard to ask if Robinson would be available for a last minute fill-in for the No. 4 car.

“Since Momentum had a family medical issue preventing us to make Road Atlanta, we were happy to allow Skyler to fill in for Michael,” Picard said.

GMV Motorsports would run a total of three cars for Event 4 with the addition of Robinson. Kaszuba driving the Indy Dental No. 34 car and Baltazar Leguizamon of Buenos Aries, Argentina, piloting under the a new number 45 round out the GMV Motorsports’ roaster.

Robinson would serve the start penalty for the driver change but that didn’t stop his thirst to position himself on the podium. One-by-one, Robison passed his competition until he made his way to Czaczyk. The white flag dropped and Robinson made his final moves. The pair were side-by-side in Turn 1 and then again in Turn 10. Robinson pushed and won the battle for the final podium position before crossing the start finish line.

Robinson would later be excluded from final results after post-race tech found his car to be eight pounds underweight. The decision would give Czaczyk the third-place trophy and points.

The F4 U.S. drivers will conclude their time at Road Atlanta Sunday during an early race session. Fans can watch live timing and scoring on Race-Monitor.com.
