Delay in start of season increases the competitive side of Hunter Yeany
With the start of the 2020 Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda season put on hold due to COVID-19, Hunter Yeany is still yearning to make his national level debut. Set to compete with the potent Velocity Racing Development (VRD) program, Yeany continues to add to his preparation with the planned start of the season pushed back to June.
"I am spending a lot of time at my makeshift gym at home and on the simulator, all while I do my part in the social distancing practices," explained Yeany. "It is difficult for sure and makes me a little anxious as I was 100% ready to go. The extra couple of months allows for a little more preparation activities as well as the opportunity to spend a little time at home with my family and get ahead on some schoolwork."
With test days and laps behind him, Yeany completed his offseason test and race efforts with a triple victory at the final event if the YACademy Winter Series. Closing what would have been his final on track days before the start of his national campaign, confidence was high as he shifted his focus to Road Atlanta.
"I was feeling really good about how things were progressing, how the car felt and my overall comfort level on the track," added Yeany. "In the offseason, any driver can test, do laps and get faster, but as a team, we were able to develop race craft, discuss setup changes and work through data with engineers and really get into the swing of things. I think that was and will be a huge benefit once the season does start. The main thing right now is that everyone stays safe, healthy and we get by these tough months and onwards into the season."
With the 2020 race season now set to commence June 5-7 in Austin, Texas at the Circuit of the Americas, Hunter Yeany will be aiming for the top step of the podium at the legendary circuit.
Yeany continued, "My priorities for the race season haven't changed. I'm still putting in the work off the track and while many people are sitting around, I've been pushing myself by working out and making sure I'm still physically and mentally prepared."
