Kyffin Simpson and Hunter Yeany to take on Auto Club Speedway
Fulltime F3 Americas and F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda team, Velocity Racing Development (VRD), has entered two rookie drivers in the Formula Pro USA F4 West Coast Championship presented by Exclusive Racing Winter Series. Taking place this weekend, January 24th-26th, VRD will head to Auto Club Speedway for the first two rounds of the winter championship with team newcomers, Kyffin Simpson and Hunter Yeany.
Fresh out of karting, both Simpson and Yeany will make their first starts in an open wheel car this weekend. While winning is the goal in each and every race weekend, the goal to learn and gain experience is first and foremost.
"We want to give our drivers the most track time as possible and put them in situations that they will probably never see while testing," expressed Dan Mitchell. "Race starts, out braking moves, full race distances and more is what we are looking for out of this weekend, but most importantly is the preparation for the future. Winning or standing on the podium wouldn't be too bad either."
Velocity Racing Development will use the West Coast Winter Series as a training ground for the young rookies. With a plan to be fulltime drivers for VRD in the F4 United States Championship in 2020, the Winter Series is the perfect opportunity for the drivers to settle into the transition from karts to cars, learn and familiarize themselves with the Ligier JS-F4 car and begin working with Hankook Tires and the complete VRD program.
"Track time is extremely valuable in motorsports, especially at such a young age," added Mitchell, Co-Owner of the VRD outfit. "Our goal is to give Kyffin and Hunter all of the opportunities available and prepare them as much as possible, so that when the F4 United States Championship season begins, they are ready to hit the ground running and are not having to play catchup to the more experienced drivers."
This weekend, drivers will participate in a standard race-weekend format, consisting of one day of testing and practice sessions on Friday, qualifying and race one on Saturday and the final race on Sunday. Stay tuned to the VRD social media pages for their drivers' progress.
