New F4 U.S. Championship Team Has A Winning Formula

Indianapolis 500 winning team-owner Steve Newey and Dean Durrett of Durrett Racing Group will merge to form the multi-car race team Indy Motorsport Group to contest in the 2017 Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda season.

The group will provide a driver-development focused platform for competitors making their first foray into junior open-wheel racing.

“Residing in Indianapolis has given me the opportunity to recruit team members from the Racing Capital of the World,” Durrett said. “I plan on utilizing my resources to produce an elite F4 U.S. Championship team. Working alongside, long-time friend and colleague, Steve Newey, we are excited about the formation of our new team and partnership and look forward to the upcoming F4 U.S. season.”

Indy Motorsport Group’s drivers will rely on the business acumen of Durrett. A business owner and entrepreneur since college, Durrett will manage the team, blending his passion for racing and business.

Newey, who is a multiple championship winning team manager, race engineer and former co-owner of the 2011 Indianapolis 500 winning team will manage the technical operations of the team.

Newey and Durrett will both serve as principals, lead business operations and build the technical development of the team.

“I am looking forward to working with Dean and the team to provide drivers who aspire to pursue a career as a professional with the training and knowledge necessary to be successful in auto racing,” Newey said. “We have assembled a very competitive team that is capable of winning the championship in 2017.”

Newey’s career spans over 35 years of racing at the highest levels of the sport including IndyCar, Formula 1, IMSA Sports Cars and NASCAR.

Durrett Racing Group competed in three of the five 2016 F4 U.S. Championship events as a single-entry team with Davis Durrett of Carmel, Indiana, as its pilot. The team finished eighth in points for the season.
