Das Dominates Road Atlanta, Wins All Three Races

Cameron Das of Brooklandville, Maryland, was unbeatable during the penultimate race weekend of the Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda, sweeping victories in all three races held at Road Atlanta Saturday and Sunday.

Das, who joined Konrad Czaczyk of Loxahatchee, Florida, as the second F4 U.S. driver to win three races in one weekend, seized fast-lap times in both practices, qualifying and all three races and claimed pole position for each of the rounds.

Sunday’s victory marked the fifth consecutive race Das has found the top of the podium and gave him his sixth victory of the season in just 12 races.

“Overall we were at the top of our game. We didn’t let anything slip by and gave it 100 percent,” said Das. “I will spend a lot of time on the simulator preparing for our next event in Homestead to try to continue our winning streak.”

Das, driving the No. 28 blue and white JDX Racing F4 U.S. car, got the jump on the start on front-row contender Skylar Robinson of Augusta, Georgia, during the final race of the weekend Sunday.

A full course yellow was called on Lap 4, causing the safety car to emerge onto the track to pace the F4 U.S. cars. Going into Turn 10, Darren Keane of Baca Raton, Florida, used the draft from sixth-place competitor Baltazar Leguizamon of Buenos Aries to gain momentum to make a positional move.

Under braking, Keane misjudged the turn, locked his wheels and couldn’t complete the pass which caused incidental contact with Leguizamon. Keane continued to the apex, but met in the middle of the corner with JDX Racing teammate Blake Mount of Littleton, Colorado. All three cars went off course and debris filled the path. The yellow would fly most of session and the competitors would go green with just nine minutes remaining in the race.

Das was quick out of the rolling start and created a gap between himself and Robinson.

Robinson, filling-in for GMV Motorsports’ pilot Michael Goodyear of Carmel, Indiana, was in close contention challenging Das, but an error out of the yellow from Robinson caused him to spin in Turn 3 allowed for Das to pull away and sent Robinson to 12th.

Robinson would finish the race sixth.

Czaczyk would rally late in the race but could not close in on the current points leader. Das never conceded his first-place position throughout the race.

“It was a really good race,” Das said. “Skylar had a some really great pace at the beginning of the race. Then the yellow came out. When I saw Skylar’s mistake in Turn 3 in my mirrors, I had a little sigh of relief. I knew Konrad would be right on me though. I had to work as hard as I could because he definitely brought the pace at the end of the race.”

Czaczyk finished the weekend with two second-place finishes and a third-place podium finish. Kyle Kirkwood of Jupiter, Florida, also had a solid weekend finishing third in Races 2 and 3 and second in Race 1.

The F4 U.S. Championship will meet for the inaugural finale at Miami-Homestead in Homestead, Florida, Oct. 7-9.
