Driver Doesn't Have to Cross the Finish Line First to Be Recognized as a Winner

Drivers in the Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda series can win without ever taking the checkered flag starting this Saturday during the championship’s second event at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Crawford Composites and SCCA Pro Racing have created a special award recognizing a driver who exemplifies a professional approach to the event, demonstrates on-track skills and performance, shows determination and has a competitive spirit no matter what he or she experiences throughout the event weekend.

Crawford Composites, the manufacturer of the F4 U.S. chassis, will present an F4 U.S. competitor with the first Crawford Driver’s Award during the series’ Race 3 podium ceremonies. The award, which is named after Crawford Composites founder Max Crawford, will also include a prize package worth $1,000 in car parts.

“I’ve had over 300 competitors drive for me and the ones who I continued to sign were the ones who had charisma on and off the track,” Crawford said. “This award will honor those drivers who not only are chargers on the track but also promote their sponsors, are cognizant of those who work to make them better at their craft, take consideration for the event, have positive personality and are polite. These drivers aren’t always the ones who cross the finish line first, but they should be recognized for their efforts in being positive role models for upcoming athletes. These are the competitors we want our kids to look up to.”

SCCA Pro Racing officials will judge competitors during each of the three races. The driver who accumulates the most points based on the criteria will be presented with the award during Race 3 podium ceremonies for the remainder of the season.
